EXHIBITION AND CONFERENCE CENTRE
One general aim of meetings and conferences is to promote
the exchange of knowledge and experience, and it is clear
that the environment in which they are held will affect
the quality of such exchange.
The city provides an incomparable
setting for team meetings. In February 1997, the Melilla
Exhibition and Conference Centre was opened in a residential
area in the commercial and administrative heart of the
city.
The Melilla Exhibition and Conference
Centre hosts many of the city's cultural activities, with
a varied programme including exhibitions, concerts, theatrical
performances, film seasons, public talks and seminars, as
well as the annual schedule of conferences.
A luminous glass-panelled entrance hall
with a Tourist and Cultural Information point leads into:
-4A large auditorium with a capacity of 350 people
-4Two convention rooms with a capacity of 120 people.
-4Complementary facilities (a shop, cafeteria, toilets,
dressing rooms, meeting room, and store room).
IT and audio-visual equipment includes a
system of VHS monitor panels for audio and video input, loud
speaker services, simultaneous translation, video-conferencing,
projection and stage setting.
The 350-seat auditorium is entered through two side doors
leading into a central gangway dividing the front and back
areas of seating. The production cabin at the back of the
auditorium provides a paging system, audio and video recording
equipment, SuperVHS, Betacam, slide and transparency projection,
12-projector multivision, and 35 mm film projection on an
8 x 5 metre screen with Dolby stereo sound. There are three
simultaneous translation cabins, a 12-seat central debating
table, closed circuit TV and computer connections. The stage
is 6.5 metros deep, 13 metres long, and 9 metre high, with
a projection screen on the back wall, There are automatic
curtains for both the screen and the stage. Access is facilitated
by a hydraulic lift and there are three directly accessible
dressing rooms. For performances, there is a 60,000 W.lighting
system, comprising 16 theatre lights, 12 spot lights at the
back and front of the stage (six on either side), as well
as a 16 or 32 digital mixing desk and 30 dimming channels.
There are also three shafts with manual catheads. The sound
quality is excellent, with six 36 W. speaker columns distributed
around the auditorium, a 120 W. mixer-amplifier with 4 input
sockets, 1 gooseneck condenser microphone, 2 cordless microphones,
1 CD player and 1 auto reverse cassette player. The stage
can be enlarged by removing the front two rows of seats (50
in total).
Each of the two 120-seat convention rooms
is equipped with a central table, a projection screen
and production room with paging system, audio and video
recording equipment, SuperVHS, Betacam, LCD, multivision,
slide and transparency projection, and simultaneous translation
cabins.
As well as the marvellous setting
provided by the City of Melilla, businesses can take advantage
of the different services facilitated by the Office of
Tourism and Transportation, including renting of office
space in the Centre, the provision of secretarial assistance
for meetings, and the organisation of events at other
sites. The Office of Tourism and Transportation subcontracts
the services necessary for every occasion (for example,
accommodation in nearby hotels, transportation, or cultural
activities). Finally, let us not forget that the city
of Melilla has a wide variety of restaurants, with a wonderfully
varied cuisine to satisfy the gastronomic tastes of all
your customers.
