The city of Melilla offers unique possibilities for all types of event. February, 1997, saw the opening of the Melilla Exhibition and Conference Centre, in a central, residential area surrounded by shops and public services. The Exhibition and Conference Centre is the scene for many events of cultural importance, as well as annual congresses, with a wide-ranging programme of exhibits, concerts, plays, film screenings, conferences and seminars, and other events.

In the large glass vestibule, you will find the Reception with a Tourist and Cultural Information Desk, and the entrance to:

• A Large auditorium with capacity for 390 people.
• Two business rooms, each with capacity for 120 people.
• Services (shop, cafeteria, toilets, dressing rooms...). The audiovisual system includes a system of VHS monitored graphic panels with audio and video, public announcement system throughout, simultaneous interpreting, videoconferencing, projectors and stage lighting.

The Auditorium has 390 seats, divided into stalls and tiered seating with an aisle, and side entrances. The control room, at the back of the auditorium, has a public announcement system, audio and video recording, video and slides, background projection of transparencies and 12 projector multi-view, 35mm cinema facilities with an 8 x 5 m screen and Dolby Stereo sound. It has 3 simultaneous interpreting booths, a debate system on the central table with capacity for 12 people, closed circuit TV and computer connections. The stage is 6.5m wide and 13m long, with a 9m opening and background projections, with stage curtains, and automatic screen operation. It has a liftplatform and 3 dressing rooms with direct access. In terms of technical data, it has 60,000 watt lighting in 16 pc theatre lights, 12 front and off-stage lights (6 on each side of the stage), a digital table with two 16 preparations or one 32 preparation (16 memories), and 30 dimmer channels. It also has 3 batters with manual sling control. Acoustics are excellent, with sound distributed by means of 6 cardiol columns of 36 watts, 1 mixer-amplifier of 120 watts with 4 entries, 1 condensing "swan neck" microphone, 2 wireless microphones, 1 CD and auto-reverse cassette-type tape recorder with 2 double decks. The stage can be extended 2 metres by eliminating 2 rows of seats (50 places).
