Every Year, during the first fortnight of August, Melilla is a date on the calendar of regatta enthusiasts, constructers and sponsors worldwide because of the "Ciudad de Melilla" Nautical Week.
In a very short space of time, this event has consolidated itself in the regatta world both nationally and internationally. The Nautical Week is a High Level Cruiser event in the calendar of the Royal National Sailing Federation and scores count for the Spanish IMS Cruisers Championship in the IMS 500, IMS 600, IMS 670 groups - in the C and D categories. It takes place in the bay and waters adjacent to the Autonomous City of Melilla.
The Nautical Week means that residents and tourists alike are focused on the sporting events which take place on the sea. Any sailor who docks in the port is well-received by local citizens, and he or she is able to enjoy the whole range of activities in the city and in the Puerto Deportivo Noray, meaning that the event transcends simple sporting criteria to become a social happening too.
The Week is organized by the Autonomous City of Melilla and the Club Marítimo de Melilla, with the support of the Royal National Sailing Federation and the Melilla Sailing Federation.
The first 3 finishers in each of the groups mentioned in the Regatta advertisement receive trophies which are copies of the "Meeting" sculpture in silver/silver plate, silver/bronze, and bronze/bronze. In addition there are cash prizes from the organizers for each group winner.
